About this place
Descending the stairs along Sakura-dori leads into a quiet kissaten tucked away from the street level. Many guests step through Peshawar's door for the Mont Blanc made with chestnut paste from Obusedo in Nagano. The puree gives way with a delicate, crumbling texture, releasing an earthy, concentrated chestnut profile held to an elegant level of sweetness. Paired with a robust, deeply roasted coffee, its lingering chestnut finish stands out clearly.
The dessert list extends well beyond the Mont Blanc. Choices include an apple chiboust concealing pieces of fruit within moist pastry alongside cream, a smooth rare cheesecake, and classic coffee jelly, offering variety according to the mood of the day. Black tea and coffee arrive in characterful antique cups, adding a measured sense of occasion to the table.
For lunch, savoury options provide reliable sustenance, from a golden-toasted hamburger sandwich to a melted-cheese croque-monsieur. Plates served with house potato salad and pickles, as well as a hearty curry, round out the sort of carefully prepared food menu expected of a traditional cafe.
On weekdays, Peshawar remains open until 23:30 at night, shifting into an understated bar as illuminated bottles light up the back counter. Stocking single malts like Laphroaig and Bowmore, Japanese whiskies including Yamazaki and Hibiki, and warming, aromatic Irish coffee, it serves naturally as a quiet evening retreat.
